Chef Maria Carla Leal leads the kitchen of the immensely popular El Surf Club, where she showcases her 18 years of experience as well as her passion for gastronomy.
Chef Carla has worked in 5-Diamond hotels including the St. Regis Punta Mita, alongside the renowned Chef Sylvain Desbois. There, she directed the various dining establishments of the hotel including Las Marietas, Sea Breeze, and the haute cuisine Carolina restaurant.
Currently Chef Carla’s cuisine is characterized as a mixture of Mediterranean style food with a Mexican influence, featuring dishes such as paella, rossejat, and her specialty, Gambas al Ajillo – shrimp sauteed with garlic, olive oil, a touch of sauvignon blanc, and the signature chiles – which combine to ignite the fire of flavor. This dish is highlighted by her popular “salsa brava”, giving it a touch of personal distinction.
Guest Chef
German Lucarelli
Renowned chef and restaurateur Germán Lucarelli has established himself in diverse international culinary scenes, from Buenos Aires to Paris, London, Beirut, Istanbul, Miami, New York, and Maine. Growing up in Argentina, Germán’s passion for cooking ignited at a young age while assisting his grandmother María Elena in the kitchen. By 17, he had ventured to Mendoza, where he began his culinary journey as a dishwasher, steadily rising to the position of line chef.
In 2018, Germán opened The Lost Fire Grill & Bar in Kennebunkport, where he showcased his unique interpretation of Patagonian cuisine. His innovative dishes, prepared over open flames, quickly positioned the restaurant as a premier dining destination in the region. With a masterful blend of traditional flavors and modern techniques, Chef Germán captivates diners seeking an authentic yet refined culinary experience. A few years later, he introduced LUCA, an outdoor patio behind the main restaurant, allowing guests to savor the vibrant atmosphere of a Patagonian asador.
Continuing to expand his culinary footprint, Chef Germán launched two new restaurants in Cape Porpoise: Casa Seventy Seven, a relaxed seafood shack offering comfort food with stunning views of the Maine coastline, and Ultramar, where he artfully combines the freshest local seafood with Mediterranean flavors and authentic wood-fired cooking. In the summer of 2024, he introduced Dos Elenas Gelato, a charming ice cream truck that pays homage to his grandmothers and the art of traditional Argentine gelato-making. Looking ahead to 2026, Germán’s latest venture, THE ASADOR GRILL by The Lost Fire, aims to bring the heart of Patagonian cuisine to Rock Row in Westbrook, Maine, creating a captivating dining experience centered around traditional open flame cooking.
